The Outline of a Unique Platform

I will do what you tell me to do. Not what I want to do because I carry a torch.
I live in Kansas. I'm aware of the general local opinion on a great many issues, including the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage, and the importance of agriculture. Even where my opinion differs from that constituents, I would be elected to represent them. Where it makes sense, causes the least harm, and benefits those that voted for me, I'll make decisions based on the desire of those who have trusted me with their vote.

I will only run for office twice. Once to learn how to play the game, and once to kick some ass for my constituents. I'm out after that.

I don't intend this to be a career any more than the founding fathers did. I'd actually prefer a one-and-done, but as intricate and entangled as politics must certainly be I can't expect to be really effective until I have some seniority and experience. I will not become part of a world that has governed itself into complacency and contempt for the electorate. Fresh frontal lobes need to be involved whenever possible and reasonable.

I will only accept my salary and a housing allowance. ANY money generated above that will go directly into healthcare for the uninsured. I will buy my own health care insurance. I will not get rich being a politician, and you deserve better than entrenched futility.
I am floored at the number of middle class elected officials who leave office as millionaires. What crap! No wonder our government is in stalemate - why would an official vote against the cushy life they've gained to do little more than run election campaigns? I'm a professional health care provider and a businessman. I work for a living like everyone else I know. I seen no reason to govern any other way.

I will get elected (or won't) without corporate help. I will not owe any monied bodies allegiance.

This is the limiting factor. Money wins elections, and corporations have more of it than anyone else. Still, Americans are deciding that maybe corporations shouldn't be holding the strings to the marionettes anymore. I may never see an office in official capacity, but what the hell? I have a problem with profitable companies like Exxon not paying taxes when I give a third of what I make to pay for a Congressman's limo. I honestly think that, working together, we can get like-minded folk motivated.

I reserve the right to flip-flop. Policies and opinions change with the world around us. Change is how we got out of the primordial ooze. I'm okay with that.

I am not an expert on everything. No one is. Making decisions requires current information and sometimes more than one person's input. My stated opinion(s) years ago will not hamstring my decisions made tomorrow. This is not an integrity issue. This is not an issue of consistency or immaturity. This is how you and I make our households work, and our businesses succeed. As an environment changes adaptation is critical. It is something the government (at many levels) has been woefully inept at considering and is therefore grossly incompetent in a myriad of ways. Consider any basic, common sense governmental change you think reasonable, and think how far we've come in the last 5 years in making that change. Frustrated anyone?

I will not give 'yes' or 'no' answers to questions on issues like abortion or same sex marriage. The answers aren't that simple, and if you think they are, your world is too small to vote me into the real world where I'll make decisions.

I am a Family Practice Physician Assistant. I take care of everything that walks through the door. I work with every possible personality type that lives within a 50 mile radius, and even more. The problems I encounter are NOT simple. I refuse to be labelled Pro-Anything. I take care of people, and will do so as their elected official.

I am also a business person. On paper some things make sense, and some don't. I buy things I need, and spend what I can afford. I don't buy what I can't use, I don't spend money and gamble on it being in the bank account years later. I pay my bills, or I pay a penalty. I don't send money to help people who don't need it and I sure as hell don't get taken advantage of more than once by the same person/scheme. I don't commit resources I can't spare and certainly don't put resources in harms way without a very clear reason for doing so (which is rare).
