I don't intend this to be a career any more than the founding fathers did. I'd actually prefer a one-and-done, but as intricate and entangled as politics must certainly be I can't expect to be really effective until I have some seniority and experience. I will not become part of a world that has governed itself into complacency and contempt for the electorate. Fresh frontal lobes need to be involved whenever possible and reasonable.
This is the limiting factor. Money wins elections, and corporations have more of it than anyone else. Still, Americans are deciding that maybe corporations shouldn't be holding the strings to the marionettes anymore. I may never see an office in official capacity, but what the hell? I have a problem with profitable companies like Exxon not paying taxes when I give a third of what I make to pay for a Congressman's limo. I honestly think that, working together, we can get like-minded folk motivated.
I am not an expert on everything. No one is. Making decisions requires current information and sometimes more than one person's input. My stated opinion(s) years ago will not hamstring my decisions made tomorrow. This is not an integrity issue. This is not an issue of consistency or immaturity. This is how you and I make our households work, and our businesses succeed. As an environment changes adaptation is critical. It is something the government (at many levels) has been woefully inept at considering and is therefore grossly incompetent in a myriad of ways. Consider any basic, common sense governmental change you think reasonable, and think how far we've come in the last 5 years in making that change. Frustrated anyone?
I am a Family Practice Physician Assistant. I take care of everything that walks through the door. I work with every possible personality type that lives within a 50 mile radius, and even more. The problems I encounter are NOT simple. I refuse to be labelled Pro-Anything. I take care of people, and will do so as their elected official.
I am also a business person. On paper some things make sense, and some don't. I buy things I need, and spend what I can afford. I don't buy what I can't use, I don't spend money and gamble on it being in the bank account years later. I pay my bills, or I pay a penalty. I don't send money to help people who don't need it and I sure as hell don't get taken advantage of more than once by the same person/scheme. I don't commit resources I can't spare and certainly don't put resources in harms way without a very clear reason for doing so (which is rare).
